I was honoured to know "Trapper Paul". He saved my life on Chain Lakes one day almost 30 years ago. I was miles away from my camp on Griffen Lake ice-fishing with some friends when I developed a nasty fever. I was so sick and frozen solid, I didn't think I could make it all the way back to my camp on my snow machine. Paul didn't know me very well then, but he saw I was in trouble. He pointed towards the shoreline and said, follow that trail to my camp, it's not far from here. I did as instructed, barely navigating through that fever. When I walked through the door of his trapper's cabin I thought I was in heaven! The fire was humping, there was a soft bed covered in quilts and blankets...I layed down, thawed out and fell asleep. By the time I awoke, the fever had broke and I was able to rejoin my friends and drive back to my camp. I'll never forget that day and I'll never forget Paul! Incidentally, there were many more happy times with Paul after that. An exceptional human who often spoke fondly of his kids. May he rest in peace.
