Obituary for MARGUERITE MARIE GRATTON

MARGUERITE MARIE GRATTON
GRATTON, MARGUERITE MARIE
(1937-2018) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marguerite on Sept. 11, 2018 1:30pm at Golden Birches, Blind River at the age of 81. At peace and pain-free after suffering declining health over the past year. Beloved mother of James and Norm. Proud and loving grandmother of Brooks Gratton and Aaron Roy. Special "Nana" to Caitlin and Zach Draper (mother Carrie Gratton). Predeceased by husband Allan (1990) and daughter Angela (2015). Sister of Anne-Marie Jacques (late Normand), Pierre Gilbert (Ange-Aimée) and Paul-Emile Gilbert. Predeceased by siblings Arthur Gilbert, Thérèse Roy (late Clement), Phillipe Gilbert (late Sharon). Survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marguerite was born on July 16, 1937, the second-youngest of seven children of Joseph and Josephine Gilbert on a farmstead in Rang-7, Saint. Zacharie, Quebec. She moved to the Blind River area in 1959 where she married Allan Gratton. Ever the “mother hen” to her children, Marguerite was a creative and free-spirited person who always took a sincere interest in the lives of her family and friends, and placed importance of her Catholic faith which she imparted to her children at a very young age. She was a familiar face at the 17 Restaurant in Blind River, where she befriended staff and patrons alike.

Funeral mass Wed. Sept. 19, 11am at St. James the Greater church, Blind River, Father Ignatius Xavier officiating. Internment at Hillside Cemetery to follow. Special thanks to Dr. Mark Deverell, nurses and PSWs who cared for our mother at home, in Acute Care and at the Birches. In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Shore Health Network Foundation - Palliative Care would be appreciated. A very special thank you also to Father Xavier for his friendship and compassion towards our mother over the years, and whose visits always lifted her spirits without fail.
