Obituary for John Allen Childs

John Allen Childs
John Childs, a devoted and faithful husband and loving father passed away suddenly at his home on May 24th at the age of 50 years. He will be remembered and dearly missed by his beloved wife Val, and cherished children Sarah (Jonny), Trevor (Jessica) and Caleb as well as his grand-daughter Aliya. John was born December 16, 1967 to his late parents Henry and Gloria Childs in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Throughout his life, he became known for his big smile, his gentleness, and always being willing to go for coffee in any spare moment. Not much made him happier than having his family get together for good conversation and laughter, no matter the little amount of sleep he may have gotten. He made his priorities known through his giving nature and by taking genuine interest in the lives around him. He worked hard to provide for his family, pushing through even when he should have taken a break. He was a stubborn, but soft man of integrity who somehow managed to push the limits while at the same time never overstepping boundaries. John always made it obvious how proud he was of his 3 children and thankfully in his 50 years was able to be there for their graduations, marriages of both Sarah and Trevor, and the birth of his grand-daughter Aliya. He started calling himself "Young Gramps" before she was even born, and the sparkle of his love for her never left his eye. He was Caleb's number one fan through all of his football seasons, as well as constantly supporting his future schooling and career goals. Some of John's favourite past times were going to Caleb's games, figuring out his ancestry, storm-chasing, exploring abandoned places, telling ghost stories, coaching soccer, and watching the ships go through the locks. His wife and children have many fond memories of road-trips and going for drives in and around the city, possibly in places that may have been pushing those limits that were previously mentioned! John is also lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law Viola (Al) and father-in-law Ken; brothers Gord (Dianne), Philip, James (Caryn), Joseph (Arlene), Jason (Jennifer), and sister Colleen. Brother in law to Vicki and Michelle (Dale). Uncle to Daniel, Joshua (Lauren), Timothy (Nicole), Shannon (Kyle), Melissa, Benjamin, Emma, Kendra, Angela Jo, Alex, Erin, Josiah, Rachel, Christopher, Cory (Mythily), Bryasha, Breanna, Rileigh, Lindsay, Luke, Ashton, and Georgia. Best friend and honorary partner in crime to Robert Boretz. Also remembered by aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and colleagues at Hollywood Limousines. We would just like to thank all of our family and friends for the immense and immediate support that we have been given through this difficult time. In honour of John's love for the Packers, please feel free to show off your best Green Bay attire/colours at his Visitation which will be held at Bethel Bible Chapel in SSM (686 Black rd) on Friday June 1st from 5pm until 8pm. His funeral will be held on Saturday June 2nd at the same location at 11:00am with snacks and refreshments to follow. Donations toward Sault Minor Football League will be accepted in memory of John.

As John would say, "Bye for now".
