Peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at Extendicare Mapleview on Thursday February 8, 2018, Ivan Dufresne at the age of 89. Loving soulmate for 68 years to Thérèse (nee Foisy). Caring father of Marcel Dufresne (Darlene), Gisèle Celetti (Bill Long), Lise O’Brien and Denis Dufresne (Caroline). Pé of Cara Marie, Solange (Ben), Céleste (Paul), David John (Hether), Yolande (Adam), Marco (Meghann), Céline (Rob), Philippe (Meaghan), Patrick (Rachell) and Véronique (Luke). Pé Pé of Rhys, Sadie, Andrew, Victoria and Alexandra. Predeceased by his parents Anthime and Emma Dufresne. Brother of Louise Destro (late Sam), Fern Sayer (Jack), Roméo (Gaylene), Danielle Martin (Wayne) and predeceased by his brothers Jean-Marc (late Rita), Maurice (Rita) and Marcel. Brother-in-law of Jacqueline (late Cletus), Ray Foisy (Gail), Don Foisy (late Connie) and predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters-in-law. Uncle of many many nieces and nephews. Ivan was the rock of his family and he was a very proud father and grandfather. He was the go to man for advice on anything. He was a 40 year fan of the Soo Greyhounds, loved camping and was known for his woodworking and gardening, especially his cucumber and tomato plants. In 2017, Ivan started 100 tomato plants at Mapleview for the staff and residents to enjoy. The family would like to give a special thank you to Meghann for always being there for the family during this time. To all the staff at Mapleview, McCarroll Lake, too numerous to mention, you know who you are, thank you for the care and compassion given to Ivan and his family. As per Ivan’s wishes, cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life will be held at Extendicare Mapleview 4th floor from 11:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday March 10, 2018.. Donations may be made to Extendicare Mapleview Residents Council or the Kidney Foundation and would be appreciated by the family.
