Condolence: I regret I am late in sending condolence...2017 was a year when many gems of the world were taken including my own father in July. I am compelled however to share a precious memory which I hope will add to the celebration of John's life. He and Chris Saunders used to come out to Lake George in the marshland where I lived at the south end of Calabogie Road. There were several species of predatory birds by the lake and they had such enjoyment seeking them out. We ran a Barred Owl survey together north of Bruce Mines early one Spring.... On our last waypoint of the (uneventful) sample line it was becoming dark. So just before it was time to leave, Chris was inspired to sing out an amazing Owl call and to our utter surprise a male and a female Barred Owl arrived and began to mate on a branch 2m above us. John and I were in great disbelief and complete awe of this occurrence all the while Chris was giddy with accomplishment. I'll never forget that astonishing event.... Peace be with you family of John Scarratt.

Condolence: Dear Maureen: I was so sorry to hear of the passing of John. He was a wonderful, kind man and an inspiration to me at work. He also inspired me to travel to Wales to climb Mt. Snowdon and visit the birthplace of my grandfather, for which I will always be grateful. He will truly be missed.

Condolence: Dear Maureen: As with all that knew John, we were saddened to hear of his very sudden passing. He was truly a special person, a highly respected scientist and voice of calm, logical and thoughtful advice, at all times. He was an extraordinary and highly respected mentor for many young scientists..and managers too. I treasure the many conversations we had over the years at GLFC and the wise counsel he generously shared with me. In typical John fashion he was modest and understated, but to those of us who knew and worked with him, he was a giant. Our thoughts are with you and your family. Jim and Janet Farrell

Condolence: Annwyl Maureen, Rhianon, and Martin. May I and family, and all members of Bethesda Chapel, Cemaes, extend to you all, our heartfelt condolences at this sad time. It was a shock to us all to hear of your sad loss in Chapel this morning. May God give you strength as a family at this time to accept and cope with life without John. As I read in his obituary, whilst Margaret prepares lunch, John has had a full, rich, useful and interesting life, God bless his soul, may he rest in peace.
