Obituary for Winnifred Mary McGloin (Herron)

Winnifred Mary McGloin (Herron)
Peacefully in her daughter's arms, at the FJ Davey Home in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario on January 17, 2017, at the age of 82. Winnie was born in Clontarf Dublin Ireland on March 26, 1934. Predeceased by her beloved husband Sean (John) McGloin. Predeceased by her parents Stephen & Mae Heron, and her Sister Lyla Dowling (late Anto). She is survived by her sister Sylvia Byrne (late Tony), and her special twin brother Robert Heron (late Helen) Predeceased by her husband's parents, Francis and Sadie McGloin, sisters Nan and Maureen, Kathleen (late Brendan), Gretta (late Jim) and Eamonn (Joan). Loving mother to children David (Sandra Rivers), Karen Brunetta (Joey), and the golden boy Sean (Toni). Loving grandmother to Shannon McGloin (Nathan Battigelli), Amanda Covert (Will), Andrew Brunetta (Goldie and her three daughters Sagen, Hailey and Madi) Jessica McGloin (Don) and Nicholas Brunetta. Proud great-grandmother to Chelsea Covert. She will be missed my her Heron, Dowling, Doyle,Macken and McGloin nieces and nephews. Winnie completed school, and went on to study hairdressing. While travelling to work by bus in the late 1940s, a handsome ticket checker struck up a conversation with Winnie. This conversation led to a date, and blossomed into a beautiful romance. John left both the country and girl that he loved in 1950, to pursue a better life in Canada. John travelled extensively through Canada for six years, securing work where he could, attempting to save up money to marry his love, and relocate them to Canada. John and Winnie were married in Clontarf Ireland in 1956, and settled in Sault Ste. Marie, where their three children were born and raised. David (1957) Karen (1960) and Sean (1962). Times were not always good, as John was a construction worker (who thought every day was St. Patrick’s Day) who had to leave home for extended periods of time to secure work. Winnie was forever the optimist, and always looked at the bright side of life, even during the most difficult times. Winnie will be remembered for her stories she loved to share, her beautiful smile, and kind and compassionate demeanor. She was an open and accepting person who was easily marveled by different people and different cultures. She was loved meeting new people and making new friends. Winnie always wore her heart on her sleeve; you never had to guess what she was thinking….in true Irish form, she was never afraid to speak what was on her mind. The family would like to extend special thanks to the dedicated and loving staff at the FJ Davey Home Apple Orchard 1st floor especially Tracy, Christine, Pam, Kathy, Mindy, Jana and Sadie Many thanks to the Roger and Richard and the staff of Savoy's Jewellers. Private family services will be held at O’Sullivan Funeral Home, with Claranne McFarling officiating. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in memoriam to FJ Davey Home, 733 Third Line E, Sault Ste. Marie, or the Ontario Humane Society at 962 Second Line E, Sault Ste Marie.

Have you ever met someone who is so open and accepting of new people, new cultures and is absolutely fascinated by the answers to her questions? The more different you were, the more interesting you were to her?
That was our Winnie.
Have you ever been mesmerized by a person’s ability to tell a story, where you are hanging on every word they say? And you could listen to them talk for hours and hours?
That was our Winnie.
Have you ever known an older woman who loved the idea of riding on the back of a Harley, and who actually pined for a butterfly tattoo? (But she was denied the tattoo because her skin has lost too much elasticity.)
That was our Winnie.
Do you know someone whose love for her family is unconditional and eternal, and whose strength of heart and will is beyond logic or reason?
I hope you do. We did. That was
