Obituary for Mildred Mary "Millie" Vesala (Doucette)

Peacefully with family by her side at Pathways Retirement Residence on Thursday June 9th, 2016, Mildred (Millie) Vesala in her 91st. Year. Dear wife of the late Kauko (Kenneth) Vesala. Loved daughter of the late Isaac and Pearl (Delorey) Doucette. Beloved mother of the late Robert David, Paul Vincent (Heather) of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Deborah Mae Bourn (Stuart) of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Betty-Ann (David) of Victoria B.C., Susan Rose (Tim ) of Campbell River B.C. and the late Patricia Louise of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. Loved friend of Christopher and Brittany Lucas of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. Loved sister of the predeceased Lester Doucette, Stephanie Cosgrove, Germaine Rody, Cecelia Doucette, Freda Mason, Leo Doucette, and Elliot Doucette. Daughter-in-law of the late Eino Vesala and the late Johanna (Vesala) Holmes (the late Charles). Loved sister-in-law of Colleen Doucette and the predeceased Irene Doucette, Rose Doucette, Wilfred Mason, John and Doris Vesala of Edmonton Alberta, Kalervo and Erris Vesala of London ON. Loved aunt, great aunt and great- great aunt to many nieces and nephews. Millie was a very active member of St. Gerard Majella Parish and prior to that, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and Our Lady of Fatima in Cochrane, ON. She was an active member of the Canadian Women’s Catholic League of Canada and held many positions in that organization, one being President, of the three parishes of which she was a member. Millie was also active at the four nursing homes within her parish boundaries, especially Tendercare Nursing Home, where she served as Pastoral/Palliative Care Chairperson for many years and was a member of the Board of Directors for Tendercare Residence Council. She was also a very active volunteer for Community Living Algoma where she served and chaired many committees, advocating for Developmentally Challenged persons. She was honoured by receiving their “Volunteer of the Year” award. Millie will be sadly missed by her family and friends with whom she enjoyed spending time. Family and Friends may call at O’Sullivan Funeral Home (Corner of Cathcart and St. James St.) on Thursday June 16th, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00p.m.. Funeral mass to be celebrated at St. Gerard Majella Church (211 Pentagon) on Friday June 17th, at 11:00 a.m with Father Francis Ezenezi officiating. At Mildred’s request, donations to St. Gerard Majella Building Fund would be appreciated.
